In Loving Memory...

Gary Wayne Frenza

Better known as

Shen the Dragon

Gary was a man of strong opinions who had his own unique perspective on life in general. He had strong convictions about friendship and loyalty. He was a true and steadfast friend. He had many barriers and a small inner circle of friends, but once you were invited into that inner circle there wasn't anything he (Shen the Dragon) would not do for you. Gary lived! He lived his life truly the way he wanted. He was stubborn but steadfast and constant. He took on everything with a level of seriousness, whether it was work or play. He loved gaming with friends, riding his motorcycle, and the Texas Renaissance Festival, and he had a way of bringing people together and making sure everyone had a good time. He was a Father, a Husband, a Brother, a Cousin and a Friend. He will be sorely missed.

He is survived by his wife, Amy Frenza, his daughter Mallory Frenza, his father Al Frenza and wife Monetta , his sister Shana Bissessar, his brothers Chad Minton and wife Sara and Brandon Minton, and his nephews Trinity Jagarnauth and Mason Minton, and numerous other extended family and friends.

From his Wife, Amy, on Sept 29 @ 9:35am:

Today I have to start learning how to say goodbye to the love of my life. My best friend. My partner in crime. My soulmate. My entire world. We had almost 3 years of bliss, and only 5 months of marriage, but for all of the heartwrenching pain and suffering, I would do it all over again in an instant. I would give anything for one more day with him not in pain.

Cherish your loved ones. Tell them how you feel everyday. Life can be over in an instant.

I will love you forever, Gary Bishop Frenza. Never forget that. Wait for me. I'll be there when my chores here are through.

I didn't know Gary as well as most others did. I met him as Shen through his MUD, The Chronicles of Arcanus, and through Dynasty Chat Networks (DCN) back in the day. I honestly don't remember which came first, though.

Over the years, we lost touch, mostly because of what was happening in my life. But when Facebook started becoming popular, DCN started a group there, and I got in touch with old friends, including Shen.

What I remember most was that my life was a mess at the time and he never stopped talking to me, unlike a lot of people then.

There were many things I discovered I didn't know about the man I called friend...

He's a biker...

He loves cats...

and she loved him...

And dogs....

And shooting...

Though.... I did know about his love for classic cars...

And then I discovered we had something else in common... A love for all things Renaissance.

Shen was one of those who loved it so much, he would go all out every year as The Black Knight. As the years passed, his armor improved, going from the Black Knight and the Pirate Wench...

Though I think Amy is more of a Pirate Queen...

To the Knight who captured the Demoness...

He looks terrifying here, so serious. But that was a mask he wore when in character.  Anyone who knows him, knows he is the kindest person you could ever meet.

And tamed the Pirate...

But I think, in the end, it was she who captured him...

I had seen happy couples many times before, but never had I seen two people who were truly soulmates.  Shen was at peace, happy, loved and in love.  Amy's touch was heaven to him.  You didn't have to hear him talk about her to know how much he loved her, you could see it in the way he looked at her, the smile he had when she came to mind, or to the conversation.

The love they had for each other blew my mind.

I want a love like this one day.  A love that lasts for eternity.

But, Amy was not the only woman Shen loved in his life.  His daughter, Mallory, also owned his heart. Every time I heard Gary speak of his daughter, it was with so much pride and love.

And his cousin, Jamie... Those two seem to be thick as thieves! The only person I've seen Shen take more pictures with, is Amy!!

Shen always had a smile for everyone, always knew how to make them laugh and have fun.  Even those of us who were unsure of ourselves around others, he always made sure to include everyone in the festivities.

And there were plenty of festivities!

I'm not exactly sure whose bike Amy has between her legs, but both of these ladies are beautiful!

There were many things that Shen and I didn't see eye to eye on, though... One of those things was politics... We came to agree to disagree and eventually stopped discussing the subject.  He was strong in his beliefs, and never had any hesitations on sharing his point of view and encouraging discussion.  Just don't get defensive or argumentative and he'll discuss it til y'all are blue in the face!! Gary was always civil in his discussions, and asked the same of others.

But I think, the best pictures of Gary are these:

I wish he could have been here for the snow this year!

Never knew he could ride a horse... Or could he?
